KeepGiving donated 420 Chromebooks to rural schools in Sibiu
In 2020 more than ever, with so many online classes, education turned digital. But in order to ensure its success, everyone needs to have access to the latest technology. However, this is not always the case, especially not in rural areas.
KeepGiving, KeepCalling’s charitable organization, is one of the foundations that didn’t just understand this, but also started doing something about it. Together with OvidiuRo and the Finnish School in Sibiu, KeepGiving has initiated a digitalization project aimed for rural schools in the Sibiu county.
The project started with the schools in two villages (Gura Raului and Rosia), for which KeepGiving donated 420 Chromebooks, 2 power stations, and an interactive board with a video projector in total value of 172,000 euros. The materials were donated to 19 classes of children (358 students and 59 teachers).
However, the entire action meant more than just the donation of material goods. The teachers and students in these schools also benefited from introductory computer science courses that taught them basic digital skills, for optimal technology use both at school and at home.
