The 2019 edition of the International Sibiu Marathon was a lovely opportunity to run again for good causes, and be a part a great team tradition. It’s been years now since KeepCallers participated in this event, that’s not only keeping us healthy, but also giving a helping hand to so many NGOs and their projects.
40 good causes this year to choose from, and 28 KeepCallers took the challenge. They chose 13 NGOs from different fields: from health and educational projects to fight against corruption. The rain didn’t discourage them, on the contrary, it only made them more determined. Here are some testimonials about this year’s run:
Well, it was the first Marathon that I attended and it was a great Saturday activity where we got to run for a good cause. I was really surprised how many people showed up for this event even though it was such a rainy day. It was a really great experience and I can’t wait to attend the next Marathon, maybe I will try to run more than 5 kilometres.
This year was quite a challenge since it was raining cats and dogs. However, the 5km turned out to be much “shorter” than I expected or I got better :)).There were many enthusiasts who were not scared away by the heavy rain and I’m glad I was one of them. The causes prevailed! It was a pleasant experience despite the weather.
Loved it! I never would have thought that it would be such a rewarding experience getting up at 6am on a Saturday and just go running through the rain. Totally worth it. It was an honor running among other KeepCallers and a pleasure seeing that the UCOS Foundation was so supportive.
I gotta say I loved my 10km experience this time as well, even if it was raining. First, it’s always about the atmosphere and the good vibes that you can feel around from volunteers, runners and everybody else in the city. Loved the band playing near Atrium, the old ladies cheering us up from the old houses in the city center (it was the first time I saw this happening since the marathon started in Sibiu and for me this was a sign that people are changing and want to get more involved with it).
Thirdly, for me it was impressive how the organizers managed to get so many people together to make this happen (companies that offered snacks and massages, hundreds of volunteers). And let’s not forget about the causes, I think most of the 40 causes either reached or were very close to reaching their target funding through the marathon, which is quite a thing.
