Building homes and strengthening the team, all while having fun
Volunteering for Asociatia Acasa, an NGO in Cluj that builds homes for underprivileged families, is one of our most cherished Charity traditions. So this year, a brave team of 11 KeepCallers left the office and joined the construction site for two days.
Wednesday evening: Cluj, here we come
When the work day ended, our team of volunteers was expected by a bus that took them to Cluj. We don’t know if this became a party bus, no bird told us any secrets. What we do know for sure is that it took them to the hotel, where they felt welcomed… as soon as they stepped in.
Thursday:
Presentations were being made, safety instructions were provided, teams were made and the hard work started. The team discovered the same strict engineer with a great sense of humor that welcomed all KC team in the past 7 years or so.
Friday:
More work, some of our colleagues said that they felt even more productive, after warming up and learning building tips and tricks the first day. And they were rewarded with diplomas. :)
Overall, the experience felt fulfilling and fun, but don’t take our word for it. Read our colleagues’ testimonials:
It was a great experience! Hard work at some point, but it didn’t feel that hard because of the people I was surrounded with. I fully recommend it as a team building adventure.
Teamwork was what I appreciated most, the fact that we got the opportunity to work on something else, different from the daily tasks. We engaged in actual physical work and saw the results of our work, which was pretty good, modesty aside. We were really determined, nothing could stop us: the rain, the wind, the mud. And since we’re on that topic: they gave me a pair of proper boots to wear on the site. I was wearing something less muddy, more roady, so a big thank you for getting their help.
Good cause, good deeds, nice coworkers, new skills, good team building. :)
It was definitely an incredible experience that made me want to try it again! We have the experience to work side by side, and to know each other better, learn to coordinate and be supportive of each other. Nea Vio and Andreea V were a joy to work with, their youthful energy and pleasant personality were contagious.
First and foremost, I appreciated the teambuilding experience. Getting into specifics, I loved the fact that the NGO has certain eligibility criteria for choosing their beneficiaries: they must be employed. Of course, their revenues are not that high, so they wouldn’t afford a house otherwise. On a funny note, the shoes of 4 out of the 5 KC girls, including me, were not that adequate for a construction site and we were pleasantly surprised to see that they offered us boots. They got everything covered, including small size boots. :)
Going to Cluj to help building houses was a very good experience because beside helping unfortunate people, I got the chance to learn the process of building a house, improved my handyman skills and got to know better some of the colleagues that i don’t usually interact that much with. I recommend it. 5 out of 5 stars. :)
